In July 1981, I lost my job at the Colorado Toys and Gimmicks in Englewood, Colorado for an unknown reason.
I started working out of a labor pool also in Capital Hill. I was landscaping a highway with about ten other men of all different backgrounds. I remember the lengths of light sod becoming impossibly heavy. Some men next to me noticed my sudden collapse of strength and moved to help me, only to be backed off by the foreman who was overseeing our production. To me, it meant the beginning of the end.
